Memorial Day Ceremonies This Weekend
War memorial ceremonies will take place Sunday morning before parade begins at 1:30 p.m.

Melrose has a slate of Memorial Day ceremonies scheduled this weekend, including the annual parade.
The traditional decoration of graves and flag burning ceremonies will be held today at Wyoming Cemetery beginning at 9 a.m.
On Sunday, ceremonies begin at 8:30 a.m. with a breakfast collation for veterans at VFW Post 2394 on Chipman Avenue. Ceremonies will then be held at various war memorials across the city, beginning at the World War II and Korean War Memorial across from City Hall at 10:30 a.m.; the Vietnam War Memorial at Ell Pond at 10:45 a.m.; and the World War I Memorial at The Knoll at 11 a.m.

A Memorial Day Mass will be held at St. Mary's at 11:30 a.m., followed by parade floats, antique cars and other vehicles assembling on Main Street around 12:30 p.m. The Elks will hold a ceremony at 12:40 p.m. before all parade marchers not in vehicles will assemble behind Memorial Hall at 1 p.m.
The parade will begin at 1:30 p.m., traveling down Main Street to Wyoming Cemetery. Veterans are invited to march or to ride on trolleys. Closing ceremonies will be held at Wyoming Cemetery at approximately 2:30 p.m.

Following are street closing and detours for the parade on Sunday, May 30:
- The City Hall parking lot will be closed from 8 a.m.-2 p.m.
- Main Street southbound will be closed from Emerson Street to Upham Street at noon.
- Main Street northbound and southbound between Emerson Street and Upham Street will be closed 12:30-2:30 p.m. Traffic will be detoured onto Lebanon Street and Myrtle Street.
- Main Street northbound and southbound between Upham and Sylvan Streets will be closed 1:15-2:45 p.m. Traffic will be detoured to Lebanon Street and Myrtle Street.
- Main Street northbound and southbound from Sylvan Street to Banks Place will be closed 2-3 p.m.
- Sylvan Street from Linwood Avenue at the entrance of Wyoming Cemetery to Main Street — both eastbound and westbound — will be closed from 1:15 -3:30 p.m.
- All side streets leading into Main Street from Lebanon Street, Dell Avenue and Myrtle Street will be closed. Neighborhood access away from Main Street will be allowed.
- Parking along the west side (City Hall side) of Main Street from Emerson Street to Essex Street and Sylvan Street (Main Street to Mt. Vernon Avenue) will be prohibited starting at 10 a.m. Parking on both sides of Main Street from Upham Street to Sylvan Street will be prohibited from noon-3 p.m.
