Notable events from last week's police log.

Overdose on Lake Avenue

Wednesday, June 9, 7:10 p.m. A caller from Lake Avenue reported that his son had overdosed. The person was transported to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital; police did not have any additional details, according to Melrose Police Lt. Mark DeCroteau.

Telephone Scam Targets Victims' Checkbook

Thursday, June 10, 10:23 p.m. A Perkins Street resident reported receiving a phone call from someone who claimed they had won a prize, but that the resident needed to a check in order to process the winnings, DeCroteau said.

"They fortunately did not fall for it and reported it to us," DeCroteau said. "It's under investigation, based on where the call came from."

Fight at VFW Post Breaks Up Party

Friday, June 11, 11 p.m. Police received several 911 calls about a fight on Main Street in front of VFW Post 1506. DeCroteau said once police arrived, the fight had already dispersed. Officer then ended the party at the VFW.

Arrests and Summonses

Robert W. Cunningham, 49, 39 Crescent Ave.,  Melrose was arrested on Monday, June 7 on a default warrant for failing to register as a sex offender.

A 14-year-old was placed under arrest at Foodmaster, 880 Main St., on Wednesday, June 9 on the charge of being a fugitive from justice on a court warrant.

A 50-year-old Melrose man was arrested on Wednesday, June 9 on the charge of domestic assault and battery. The charge was later annulled in Malden District Court according to the court clerk's office.

A 14-year-old was placed under arrest on Thursday, June 10 on the charge of assault and battery.

Glenn Youngquest, 35,  477 Pleasant St., Melrose, was arrested on Friday, June 11 on charges of assault and battery and intimidating a witness.

Police issued three summonses last week.
