State Representative Kate Lipper-Garabedian (D-Melrose) is running for reelection to represent the 32nd Middlesex District for a full two-year term. The Democratic Primary is September 1, and the General Election is November 3. Each election includes vote by mail and early in-person voting options. Previously a Melrose City Councilor-at-Large and state education attorney, Lipper-Garabedian was elected to fill the seat vacated by now-Melrose Mayor Paul Brodeur and sworn into office March 25 in the State’s first-ever physically distanced ceremony at the foot of the Grand Staircase.
“It has been just five months since I was elected a State Representative, and I remain grateful for the confidence so many constituents expressed in me then,” said Representative Lipper Garabedian. “I would be honored to have your support this fall to represent the District in a full two-year term.”

In last winter’s special election, Lipper-Garabedian won a three-person primary with 68.1% of the vote and the general election with 81.5%. Since taking office, the Representative has worked on COVID-19 legislation to protect public health, mitigate financial impacts, and reinforce community supports. A recently enacted COVID-19 budget bill, for example, includes provisions Lipper-Garabedian drafted and sponsored that direct investments to Melrose, Wakefield, and Malden to aid the municipalities’ efforts to respond to the pandemic. She also has worked on legislation focused on law enforcement, economic development, support for schools, health care, and the climate crisis.
“I have brought residents’ voices to Beacon Hill (remotely, as it turns out) and ensured they are involved in the development of state policy,” said Representative Lipper-Garabedian. “I also have aided scores of constituents navigating the unemployment benefits system, connecting to food resources, and seeking health insurance coverage. I believe passionately about the role government can play in supporting people and their families, and I am humbled to be in a position to live that statement. Thank you for giving me this opportunity.”
