'Super' Special Election Date For 32d Middlesex District Set

Paul Brodeur's vacated seat will be decided by voters on a busy election day in 2020.

MELROSE, MA — Melrose, Malden and Wakefield voters will have a few choices to make on Super Tuesday. State Secretary William Gavin's office has set the special election for Paul Brodeur's House of Representatives seat for March 3, 2020 — the same day voters will weigh in on presidential primaries.

The primary for the House seat will be Feb. 4, 2020.

The special election is for the 32d Middlesex District seat vacated by Brodeur after his recent victory in the Melrose mayoral race.

As of Dec. 2, the only people to publicly announce their intentions to run are Melrose City Councilor Kate Lipper-Garabedian and Wakefield Town Councilor Ann Santos.

Candidates have until Dec. 24 to submit nomination papers with local registrars and Dec. 31 to file certified nomination papers to the Galvin's office. Candidates need 150 signatures.

The 32d Middlesex District consists of Melrose, Ward 5-2 in Malden and Precincts 4, 5 and 6 in Wakefield.
