Team Formed To Tackle School Improvement Plans

District looks to outline a model school improvement plan for school councils to use.

Superintendent Joe Casey announced at Tuesday night's Melrose School Committee meeting that he has formed a working group to develop plans that will create more consistency within the annual school improvement plans developed by each school council.

The School Committee recently approved the school improvement plans for Melrose High School and Hoover Elementary School. Casey said he put out a request for volunteers to help the district determine an outline of what should be included in every school improvement plan.

Casey said he has also asked each school to identify a parent and teacher to attend an organizational meeting of the team that will take place after the school year ends.

"We'll ask how we would like to capture all the different types of data, what should go in there (the school improvement plan) and what's the purpose," Casey said, "to find a way to identify what Melrose would like to see as its model school improvement plan."
