When/Where: Wednesday, Jan. 18, 9:15 a.m. / 68 South Border Road, Medford

Why Go: No leaves? No problem! Friends of the Middlesex Fells hike leader Boot Boutwell will lead hikers in learning how to identify trees and shrubs in winter by looking at branching patterns, buds, bark, persistent fruits, galls and persistent flowers. Hikers will also learn some fun and interesting natural history about these amazing plants. Meet at the Bellevue Pond parking lot on South Border Road in Medford. Heavy rain or heavy snow cancels. Why Go: MPL Cocoa House is THE place for middle schoolers to meet. This month the club will discuss The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. The book is available at the circulation desk for check-out. Drinks and goodies will be served.

Why Go: Drop your kids (ages 2+) off from 6-9 p.m. for a fun night of food, games and gym time while you enjoy some time for yourself. Food and drinks will be served. Local area restaurants will be offering special deals on PNO nights—keep an eye out! Space is limited. Visit the YMCA's Welcome Center at 497 Main Street, Melrose to register no later than 5 p.m. on Thursday.

Pricing: $20 for the first child with a family membership and $5 for each additional child.
