Milford Man Charged In Rent Payment Scheme
A Milford man is accused of charging tenants with rent for an apartment he no longer owned.

MILFORD, MA - A Milford man was charged on several counts of larceny following a reported rent scheme.
On Feb. 6 two separate victims reported to the Milford Police they were amid an eviction process for an apartment on Union Street they paid $1,800 a month for.
Rui Vieira Dacosta, 53, of Milford, owned the apartments but is accused of selling them in June 2024 and continuing to charge the tenants rent. Dacosta made it seem he still owned the property, and when the information was discovered he threatened to burn the apartment down.

During the court proceedings where this information came to light, Dacosta attacked an officer of the court and made threats to the attorney defending the victims.
Dacosta was arrested Feb. 12 and charged with two counts of larceny over $250 by single scheme and one count of a threat to commit crime.
