Milford Police: Driver Charged After Vehicle Strikes Utility Pole

Sunday, Nov. 2

At 3:11 a.m., a caller reported to Milford Police that while backing up, he “nudged” a car behind him on Shadowbrook Lane. No damage was reported, and the driver subsequently left a note on the window of the other vehicle.

At 10:13 a.m., a caller reported a hit-and-run accident on Main and Spruce streets after a white Cadillac was struck in the area.

At 11:01 a.m., a caller reported a large branch hanging across power lines on East Main Street.

At 11:51 a.m., a caller reported an oven fire in a residence on Manella Avenue. Milford firefighters responded to the scene; no injuries were reported.

At 12:31 p.m., a caller reported that a vehicle had been possibly broken into on Birmingham Court.

At 12:34 p.m., a caller reported finding a hypodermic needle near the dumpster behind McDonald’s on South Main Street.

At 1:24 p.m., a caller reported a low-hanging wire on East Main Street. Officers responded and determined that a large branch had been on the wires. National Grid was contacted and responded to the scene.

At 5:46 p.m., a caller reported that debris and a couch had been causing a hazard as they were in the roadway near Ira Toyota on Fortune Boulevard.

Saturday, Nov. 1

At 1:57 a.m., a caller reported three people were arguing outside of a property on Cedar Street. The individuals then reportedly entered a blue Toyota Camry and left the area toward Rte. I-495.

At 2:24 p.m., a caller reported a hit-and-run accident on Lawrence Street.

At 3:16 p.m., the Milford Police Department and Fire Department responded to the area of East Main Street and Medway Road on a report of a vehicular accident with injuries.

At 3:35 p.m., a caller reported that a vehicle struck a pole on Grove street and that the pole had snapped as a result. National Grid was contacted, and officers charged Roberto Zaruma, 33, of Milford, for driving with a suspended license (subsequent offence), a marked lanes violation and also on a warrant.

At 6:44 p.m., a front-desk employee at the Holiday Inn Express on Fortune Boulevard reported a fight in the lobby between two separate families. Employees had reportedly been assaulted while trying to break up the fight.

At 7:08 p.m., a caller reported someone stole his truck from the Orchard Street area. The owner told police that the keys were left in the vehicle.

At 7:42 p.m., police and fire crews responded to the area of Fortune Boulevard and Quarry Drive on reports of a two-car accident involving potential injuries. Two patients were transported to the hospital and both vehicles involved were towed from the scene.
