UPDATED: Milford Police Officer, Driver Injured after Collision near St. Mary's

A Milford police officer received minor injuries Thursday after his SUV was hit by a woman who failed to stop at a four-way stop on Granite at Sumner streets, according to a police crash report.

The collision sent both drivers to Milford Regional Medical Center.

The officer was treated and released and is expected to return to work Monday, said Police Chief Thomas O'Loughlin, in an email. The condition of the woman was not immediately known, but her injuries also were described as minor in the report.

Officer Joseph Gresian was traveling west on Granite Street about 12:41 p.m., according to the police report prepared by Sgt. John Sanchioni.

A 54-year-old woman traveling south on Sumner Street in a Hundai failed to stop at the stop sign at Granite, and struck the Milford Police SUV in the rear right side, leaving extensive damage.

The front end of the Hyundai also had extensive damage, according to the report. "The operator … admits fault and said she did not stop for the stop sign," Sanchioni wrote. She was cited with a motor vehicle charge in the crash. The crash was witnessed by a man from Framingham, who also stopped.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene. The crash report was prepared by Milford Police, but the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council accident reconstruction team also processed the scene, according to Sanchioni's report.

The Milford Police Department has reported one of its supervisor vehicles was involved in a two-car crash.
