MILFORD, MA — Incumbent Milford School Committee member Christopher Wilson prevailed in a recount Wednesday, maintaining his two-vote lead over challenger Gregory Allegrezza.

Allegrezza petitioned for the recount after initially coming out ahead in the race on Election Day. His lead fell in the vote count when the town clerk released official results days later. Wednesday's recount did not uncover any new votes, with the tally remaining 1,490 to 1,488, according to the clerk.

Wilson said friends and supporters have joked that it was their votes that helped him keep the two-vote margin. But that may not be too far off from the truth: Wilson's son and daughter both voted for the first time in the Milford spring election,

"Ultimately, I give the most credit to my kids as first time voters," he said Thursday of the two-vote lead.

Wednesday's recount took place at town hall, with votes recounted in blocks of 50. The entire recount took about three hours.

Wilson said he had one challenge during the recount after seeing two ballots stapled together with something written on them in Sharpie. The ballots did not change the outcome, however.

The other two school committee candidates in the four-way 2024 race for three seats also safely kept their seats safely. Incumbents Meg Hornberger and Matthew Zacchilli earned 1,618 and 1,877 votes, respectively. Hornberger will be seated for a third term, and Zacchilli for a second term.

Wilson was sworn in to his new term earlier this month after the election results were certified. He served as chair of the school committee over the last year, but the committee on April 11 elected Zacchilli as the chair for the upcoming year, with Michael Aghajanian to serve as vice chair.
