MILFORD, MA — The Milford Board of Registrars met Tuesday to set the date for a recount of the 2024 school committee race after a losing candidate came up short by just two votes.

School committee candidate Gregory Allegrezza last week collected enough signatures — 10 registered voters from each precinct — to force the recount in a race against incumbent Christopher Wilson.

The recount will take place beginning at 9 a.m. on April 24 at Milford Town Hall. Both candidates will be allowed to have advocates or attorneys present for the new count.

The race between Allegrezza and Wilson has changed several times since Election Day on April 2. Allegrezza was in the lead by 14 votes on election night after unofficial results dropped. Two days later, Wilson pulled ahead by 12 votes when mail-in ballots were tallied. Another update last Thursday brought the race within two votes, 1,488 to 1,490.

Wilson, who first won a school committee seat in 2018, has said he respects Allegrezza's democratic right to petition for a recount. Wilson is the chair of the school committee.

The other two school committee candidates in the four-way 2024 race for three seats won handily. Incumbents Meg Hornberger and Matthew Zacchilli earned 1,615 and 1,878 votes, respectively.
