Special Ceremony
A special speaking ceremony will begin after the parade concludes in Draper Memorial Park. Local veterans, clergy, Scouts, and the Milford High School Marching Band will participate in the ceremony.
The Field of Flags will be installed in Draper Park before Veterans Day and will remain flying until the following Monday.
At the ceremony, Commander Eric P. Ruscitti and Jr. Vice Commander Tim McDonough, both representing the Italian American War Veterans Milford Post #40, will present the Colors.
Speakers and performances will include:
- Grand Marshal Dennis "Jack" Candini to speak.
- U.S. Army veteran Adam Beard, who served as a combat cavalryman in the Global War Against Terrorism in Iraq.
- Deborah and Michael Heaney, the daughter and son-in-law of U.S. Army veteran Lawrence J. Heron, who served in World War II and was severely wounded days after landing on Omaha Beach.
- Members of the Waters Corporation Veterans Employee Resource Group will present a wreath honoring veterans at the World War I monument.
- Milford Fire Lieutenant Scott Keefe will perform “Amazing Grace” on the bagpipes during the wreath presentation. Peter Scandone, who is chairman of the Veterans Day Ceremony committee, will serve as master of ceremonies.
“Milford has a long, proud history of honoring our veterans. We encourage everyone to join us on Main Street for the parade and at Draper Park for the concluding ceremony to honor the service and sacrifice of our veterans," said Scandone.
If the parade is cancelled because of inclement weather, the speaking ceremony will be held at the Italian American Veterans Post 40 on Hayward Field at 10 a.m.
