UMass Memorial Health Milford Regional Earns 'A' Grade For Patient Safety

It was one of 16 Massachusetts hospitals to receive the accolade.

MILFORD, MA — UMass Memorial Health Milford Regional Medical Center in Milford earned an "A" grade for its ability to protect its patients from often preventable harm.

The Leapfrog Group’s Fall 2025 Hospital Safety Grades are a biannual ranking that assigns a “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” to all general hospitals in the United States based on their ability to protect patients from medical errors, accidents, injuries and infections. The Leapfrog Group, a watchdog founded 25 years ago, says it aims to improve American health care through transparency.

The report also named “Straight A” hospitals — those earning an A grade for more than two years in a row. Since 2018, UMass Memorial Health Milford Regional has earned a Straight A.

Sixteen other hospitals in Massachusetts also earned "A" grades.

“This accolade underscores Milford Regional caregivers’ collective diligence in prioritizing patient safety in our care delivery. A grade ‘A’ is not something we take for granted, as we continually assess improvements on this front to ensure a continued culture of safety at Milford Regional,” said UMass Memorial Health - Milford Regional Medical Center Chief Medical Officer Peter B. Smulowitz, MD, MPH.
