Woodland Teacher Named Science Educator of the Year

MILFORD, MA—Dr. Robert Gilmore, a fifth grade Science teacher at Woodland Elementary School, received was named the “2017 Science Educator of the Year for Worcester County” from the Massachusetts Association of Science Teachers (MAST).

Superintendent Kevin McIntyre, in his announcement, said that recipients of this award provide a leadership role in advancing and promoting the cause of quality science education among his/her peers and have been active in advancing the quality of science education among students in their schools. They are also expected to have a past history of being an active contributing member of national, state and/or local science teacher organizations.

“The Milford Public Schools is very fortunate to have an educator like Dr. Gilmore on our faculty,” said McIntyre. “This award is a testament to the dedication he has to teaching Milford students and passing along to them his love of science. We congratulate Dr. Gilmore on this professional accolade.”

Gilmore, who lives in Milford, has been a fifth grade science teacher in Milford for 12 years, said the announcement. Prior to teaching in Milford, he was audiologist for more than 20 years and his professional experience also includes teaching at the college level, serving as executive director of a United Way agency, and private practice.
