Anonymous Member Offers "Constitutional Rights" Cake to Milton Police

A cake, similar to the one brought to the Milton Police Station last Wednesday, was found at the home of U.S. Attorney Carmen Ortiz later on March 20.

On Wednesday evening, March 20, Milton Police were called to the home of U.S. Attorney Carmen Ortiz after an unwanted item was found. The item was a cake with the words "constitutional rights," written in icing.

A cake with the same writing was brought to the Milton Police Station earlier in the day by a member of Anonymous, who is involved in Op Angel Boston, a movement to have Ortiz fired over her handling of the Aaron Swartz case.

Members of Anonymous have been protesting Ortiz since Swartz, who was facing felony charges from Ortiz' office for allegedly accessing millions of documents in the MIT network, committed suicide in January.

The protests have mostly been held at courthouse where Ortiz works, but three people hung flyers in Ortiz' neighborhood and brought a cake with the words "Justice for Aaron" to her neighborhood on March 9. That cake was tested by the FBI and no crimes were committed.

A video posted on youtube by kineticsinger, an account that is linked to through the Kinectblog, the organizer of the protests at Ortiz' home, claims the new cake was for the Milton Police Sherrif.

While no position exists, Deputy Police Chief Charles Paris said he was offered the cake and asked by an activist, who he said wished to remain anonymous, about continuing protests calling for Ortiz' job. Paris said he assured the person they would not be arrested if they did not trespass or make threats.

He did not disclose the person's name, but said they were one of the three who visited Ortiz' neighborhood earlier this month. He also could not confirm if the cake found in Milton last Wednesday was put there by the same person.

The second cake, like the first, was given to the FBI for x-ray and hazmat testing.
