East Milton Dental: A True Family Practice
East Milton Dental now has two dentists, Dr. Daniel Sweeney and his niece Dr. Kate Sweeney-Regan.
East Milton Dental, formerly The Center for Cosmetic Dentistry, is a very family-oriented practice in more ways than one. The two dentists and three staff members are family and the office has catered to kids, their parents and grandparents for over three decades.
Dr. Daniel Sweeney has been in dentistry for 35 years, and his niece Dr. Kate Sweeney-Regan joined the practice after graduating from Dalhousie University Faculty of Dentistry last May.
The uncle/niece combo isn't the only family relationship at East Milton Dental, which changed it's signs in January. Dental Hygienist Maryellen Sweeney-Dumais is Dr. Sweeney's sister and Dr. Sweeney-Regan's aunt. Donella DeCourcey, the treatment coordinator, is married to one of Dr. Sweeney's cousins.
As for Dental Assistant Mary Cavallaro, who has been at the practice for 21 years, "Mary is not related, but she might as well be," DeCourcey said with a smile.

While working with family might sound like a stressful endeavor for some, the staff at East Milton Dental are united to provide the best care possible.
"It's really awesome because we a all have the same vested interest," Sweeney-Regan said.

The practice hopes to see complete families in the office, according to Sweeney-Regan. One way to make children feel comfortable is meeting them outside the office. Sweeney-Regan and her plush helper Farley the Flossasaurus, a stuffed dinosaur with a pearly white smile, will be visiting the Campbell School this month to promote oral health.
By being in town for such a long time, the office is already seeing generations of patients, including the DeCourcey family.
"My children came for their very fist visits and they're now 36 and 40," DeCourcey said.
With the addition of a new dentist, the practice is now open Tuesday through Friday and offers some evening hours.
The new name of the practice also ushered in some upgrades. The waiting room, floors and counter area were all recently redone. East Milton Dental has a new software program and digital x-rays, as well.
Sweeney-Regan, who worked at the Bicon Dental Implant Centre in Jamaica Plain last summer, now provides dental implants in Milton.
Besides the numerous family connections, the Sweeney family also has a serious tie to the Town of Milton. Both dentists grew up in Milton and Sweeney-Regan joked that members of the family never move out of town.
The relationship with the town makes for a unique bond with patients.
"I'm helping my neighbors," said Sweeney-Regan. "Most of my patients are people I know and consider friends."
