Hutchinson Mirror Returns to Library

The Milton Historical Society recently hosted a reception to celebrate the rededication of the large gilt mirror once owned by Royal Governor Thomas Hutchinson..

The large gold gilt mirror that was once owned by Royal Governor Thomas Hutchinson that was removed from the Milton Public Library during the renovations was recently rehung and rededicated on Tuesday, September 14.

The Milton Historical Society restored the mirror, which is 74 inches by 44 inches, in honor of Jeannette Lithgow Peverly. Peverly, who passed away in 2009, was "a stalwart member of the historical society and a long time member of many Milton organizations, including the Milton Women's Club, the Forbes House Museum, the First Parish Church in Milton, Fuller Village and the Milton Public Library," according to a press release from the society.

Family and friends of Peverly joined the historical society on Tuesday for refreshments. Attendees also had a chance to see the mirror, which is prominently displayed in the Reading Room.
