Milton Native Takes Over as Milton High Baseball Coach

The Milton High baseball team has a new coach who calls the gig a dream job.

For the first time in 24 years, Coach Ted Curley won't be in the dugout for the Milton High baseball team when its season starts this month. But his replacement is one of Curley's former players and coach in the MHS system.
"It's a dream job," said Jim Moonan, a senior captain for Curley's 2001 Wildcats.

Moonan, a sixth grade math teacher at Pierce Middle School, has been involved with Milton High baseball for the past seven years. Moonan has been an assistant for the Milton Legion team in the summer. He's also served as the JV head coach for the past three years.

"Almost everyone, with the exception of a few, played on my JV team," Moonan said.

The Wildcats are coming off a 9-11 season where they just missed the postseason. The team has a lot of pitching depth and veteran leadership this season.

"Leadership is absolutely one of the strong points," said Moonan.

The team's senior captains are Conor Regan, third baseman and pitcher; Bobby Freeman, starting pitcher; and Reardon Baker, outfielder and reliever.

Moonan is hoping for a successful debut season at the helm of the Milton High School baseball program. He plans to work with the junior varsity and freshman coaches to create a solid development program.

"We want to take pride in being the hardest working team in the league," said Noonan.
