This week's biggest headlines came from the Milton Public Schools with a School Committee meeting as well as the distribution of federal Education Job Funds. The town also entered into negotiations with Curry College over the management of Ulin Rink, and practices began for high school athletics.
On Tuesday evening, the School Committee met for its first meeting of the school year. Among the discussion was an announcement that the committee is moving forward with internal and external security cameras at the Pierce Middle School and High School. The plans aren't finalized yet, but the district has up to $300,000, including $50,000 each from the Copeland Family Foundation and the School Building Committee, to install the cameras. The equipment could be installed by the end of October.
Also in school news, Milton Public Schools will have over $327,000 more to apply to salary and benefits over the next two years, thanks to the federal Education Jobs Fund bill. The funds will ensure that every school in Massachusetts is operating at foundation level with at least $25 more per student than last year.
