This was another news-packed week in Milton as the Board of Selectmen and the School Committee met while local athletes competed in their first official games of the season.
On Wednesday, the Selectmen and School Committee met back-to-back. The Selectmen's meeting went quickly. Town Administrator Kevin Mearn informed the Board that the Ulin Rink management contract they were expecting to sign was not ready. Legal review from the town, the DCR and Curry College have set back the contract until a scheduled meeting on Monday, September 13.
As it relates to Ulin Rink, Tim Kernan, the President of the Ulin Rink Management Corporation spoke with Patch this week. The URMC was the only other bidder vying to manage the rink besides the Selectmen's choice, Curry College. Kernan discussed the history of the URMC, dispelled rumors about their finances and experience and looked ahead.

The deal, in which the teachers agreed to a one percent decrease in raises this year, was ratified 5-1 by the Committee.
With the beginning of classes last Wednesday, there is still plenty to report from the school front. On Tuesday, musicians from grades 4-12 gathered at Milton High School to sign up for instrumental lessons. Many new students rented instruments or borrowed them from the school. Milton Patch also sat down with one of Pierce Middle School's newest teachers, Dianne Bacsik.
