Women Religious Holds Sixth Anti-Trafficking Symposium at Fontbonne

The annual Anti-Trafficking Symposium featured a presentation by SoulCry, which tells the true story of sex trafficking based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning work of Nicholas Kristoff.

The Boston Unit of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR) Anti-Trafficking Coalition held its Sixth Annual Anti-Trafficking Symposium at Fontbonne Academy on Saturday, April 6.

Over 250 people attended event that annually focuses on the nature, evils and scope of human trafficking. This year's symposium featured SoulCry, a dance, drama and media presentation based on Nicholas Kristoff's Pulitzer Prize winning book, Half the Sky.

The partnership between Accendo Dance Company and The Arts Movement Student Company tells the story of 11-year-old Meena Khatum. Meena's story of horror and triumph as she escapes the sex trade is just one of millions of similar tales.

After Saturday's presentation, Artistic Director Loralee Scott-Conforti of the dance company, invited participants to, “Ask yourself, ‘What is one thing I can do?’ and then go do it. Put action to your faith and watch what happens.”
