NATICK, MA — Residents could soon find out what the Route 27 Bridge Replacement Project is expected to look like after a June meeting.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation is set to host a virtual design public hearing for the Route 27 Bridge Replacement Project in Natick on June 15 at 7 p.m.

At the meeting, MassDOT officials will also provide information on interchange improvements at Route 27 and Route 9.

The proposed project consists of replacing the structurally deficient bridge which carries Route 27 (North Main Street) over Route 9. It includes the reconfiguration of the interchange to "improve safety, decrease traffic congestion, and add accommodations for walking and bicycling by installing separated shared use paths and sidewalks," officials said.

Officials expect to do this by replacing one bridge with three separate bridges over Route 9. One bridge for Route 27 northbound vehicular traffic, one for southbound traffic and another to accommodate the shared-use path.

Additional features of the project include drainage improvements, new traffic signals, the addition of retaining walls, improved roadway lighting and landscaping.
