Compost at Home with the Help of the City of Newton

Buy a composting bin through the city, or get free compost.

Looking to start composting, well the City of Newton has special bins to help you reuse those garden clippings and kitchen scraps.

Two different styles of composting bins can be purchased through the city.

The Brave New Composter has a 24 cubic foot capacity the cone design means little if any turning of the contents. It costs $53.

Another option is the Earth Machine, for $40, which has pegs to make it rodent resistant and is easy to put together. It holds 10.5 cubic feet of compost.

A kitchen scrap bucket is also available for $7.75, which holds 1.9 gallons and snaps shut.

If you don’t want to make your own, Newton residents can get free compost at the Recycling Depot on Rumford Avenue.
