Former Newton Rabbi Arrested In Child Sex Sting Operation

The operation was based in the town of Framingham.

NEWTON, MA — A former rabbi was arrested in the aftermath of a sting operation meant to address sexual exploitation of children, the Massachusetts State Police announced.

Eric Gurvis, 67, was one of three people now facing multiple charges after being caught in the effort led by the State Police, Framingham Police, Middlesex Sheriff’s Office, and Middlesex District Attorney’s Office. Gurvis and the two other men reportedly were engaging with what they thought were underage children in conversations about potential sexual rendezvous, however they were actually talking with undercover law enforcement officers.

Gurvis, now a resident of the town of Sherborn, is being held on a $7,500 bail in Framingham District Court on the charges of sexual conduct for a fee with a child, enticement of a child under the age of 16, and attempt to commit a crime, that being the rape of a child. He was a rabbi at Newton’s Temple Shalom on 175 Temple St. for 18 years. According to a report from The Newton Beacon, Temple Shalom’s Board of Directors President Erica Neufeld insisted that Gurvis has not had any connection to the place of worship since 2017.
