Five Things You Need to Know Today: Oct. 11

1. Chat LIVE with Sean Bielat TODAY. Fourth Congressional District candidate Sean Bielat will be taking readers' questions LIVE today starting at noon. Bielat, a Republican, is facing off against Democrat Joe Kennedy III to fill the seat of retiring Congressman Barney Frank. Kennedy will chat live on Patch tomorrow at 1 p.m.

2. Police officers honored. The city will recognize police officers this afternoon who recovered a gun and arrested four suspects during an incident in Newton Centre last month. The ceremony will take place at 4 p.m. in the mayor's office at City Hall. 

3. Vice presidential debate. Don't forget to catch the debate tonight between Vice President Joe Biden and Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan. Check out our schedule to find out where and when you can watch the debate.

4. Youth summit. Mayor Setti Warren is hosting a Newton Youth Summit this evening to help parents and the larger community understand the challenges facing teens and to coalesce as a community to support teens. The summit will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Oak Hill Middle School.

5. "The Haunted History of Halloween." Author Lesley Bannatyne will speak tonight at the Jackson Homestead and Museum about "The Haunted History of Halloween." Bannatyne is the author of Halloween Nation: Behind the Scenes of America's Fright Night. The event starts at 7:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
