Friday night football returns to Newton North this Friday, as the Tigers take on Needham in their first game under the lights in six years — and the first night game to be played at the school's new facility.
Game time is 6 p.m., instead of the usual 7 p.m. starttime for night games, as city officials did not want the game to violate noise and lighting ordinances, according to an article on Boston.com. Newton North typically has its football games Saturday afternoon.
2006 was the last time a game was played under the lights, when the football boosters rented lights for one game that fall. Newton South plays games once a year under lights provided by its football boosters, the Boston.com article said.
