George Lalli, 94, of Newton, Loved Music, Gardening

George Lalli of Chestnut Hill died on July 29 at the age of 94.

The lifelong Newton resident and grew up on his family’s farm. Lalli served with the 782 Engineers Battalion in the Sixth Army in World War II, and he landed in Japan on the day of the surrender, according to an obituary on the Magni Funeral Home website.

He enjoyed playing his trumpet and gardened his whole life. Lalli worked as a master mechanic for over 50 years and won awards from Chrysler.

He was the son of the late Vincenzo and Angelina (Consilvio) Lalli. He was predeceased by his siblings; Ida Lalli, Mary Bosart, and Adeline Gentile all of Newton, Alfredo Lalli of Framingham and Antimo Lalli of Natick.

Lali was the husband of the late Adelaide M. (DiMuzio) Lalli for 65 years, and the father of the late Diane White of Newton.

He is survived by his children Linda Lindsey and her husband Gerry of Medway, his son in law Richard White of Newton, and his grandchildren Jennifer, Shawn, Matthew, Zachary and Brian Lindsey, all of Medway. Also survived by many dear nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held at the Andrew J. Magni & Son Funeral Home, 365 Watertown St. in Newton, on Friday, Aug. 2, from 3 p.m. to, 8 p.m. and on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. before proceeding to Sacred Heart Church, 1317 Centre St. in Newton for a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial to follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in West Roxbury.
