Morning Car Fire Closes Lanes On Mass Pike: Updated

Two westbound lanes were closed near Newton, as of 8:30 a.m.

Update: As of 9:05 a.m., all lanes are open amidst heavy morning traffic, after a car fire closed westbound routes near Newton, state police said.

A morning car fire on Interstate 90 closed lanes in the midst of Monday morning's commute.

A Mass. State Police social media post said the flaming vehicle is in the westbound lanes of the Massachusetts Turnpike near Exit 16, near Newton. As of 8:30 a.m., the middle, right and breakdown lanes remain closed.

State Police said the Newton Fire Department was en route to the vehicle, which was fully engulfed in flames. No injuries have been reported.
