Newton May Hire Kathleen Alward Smith As Interim Superintendent
The Interim Superintendent Search Committee has recommended Kathleen Alward Smith to temporarily replace Superintendent Davis Fleishman.

NEWTON, MA — Newton’s Interim Superintendent Search Committee has recommended Kathleen Alward Smith for the position of Interim Superintendent of Schools.
If approved, Smith will temporarily replace Superintendent Davis Fleishman, who is stepping down from his position at the end of the school year to become the President/Chief Executive Officer of JVS Boston. She would lead the district during the 2022-2023 school year.
Smith served as Superintendent of Brockton Public Schools from 2013 to 2019 and went on to serve as Interim Superintendent of Salem Public Schools, Weymouth Public Schools, and most recently, Dover-Sherborn Public Schools.

An educator, administrator, and attorney, Smith received her law degree with a focus on Labor Law from the New England School of Law.
The School Committee is set to vote on Smith’s appointment at its next meeting.
