Newton North Student Rewarded for Returning Wallet

Junior Rafi Razzaque did the right thing -- and he was rewarded with a special surprise at school Tuesday morning.

When 16-year-old Rafi Razzaque found a wallet on his way home from practice Monday night, he didn't think about going on a shopping spree.

Instead, Razzaque looked up the address on the owner's license and returned the wallet to the owner's home along with a letter explaining where he had found the wallet.

Razzaque, a Newton North junior, was rewarded for his good deed with a special surprise at school Tuesday morning, according to Newton Public Schools Coordinator of Communication and Community Engagement Megan Smallidge.

Eric Friedberg, whose wife lost the wallet Monday evening, surprised Razzaque at Newton North with a letter of thanks, a brand new iPod, an iTunes gift card and $100, Smallidge said.

Freidberg also called the local TV stations, which were on hand to capture the surprise.

According to CBS Boston, the wallet belonged to Friedberg's wife, Veronika Loginova. It contained more than $800, including a $700 American Express gift card

Loginova told CBS Boston she lost her wallet earlier on Monday after she let her daughter play with it while they were out on a walk.

Smallidge told Patch that Razzaque remained humble throughout the morning's interviews and attributed his good moral character to his parents and upbringing.
