BROOKLINE, MA —An oil spill that forced several ducks and geese to be taken for treatment at a wildlife facility is under investigation, according to Brookline Police Department officials.

The police and fire departments descended on the Muddy River near the Longwood MBTA station Sunday afternoon in response to the reported leak.

“Numerous geese and ducks were affected by the leak, and New England Wildlife has responded to assist,” the department said in a statement. “They have taken 8 birds to be brought back to their facility to be treated. It is not clear if this is the final number or if there will be more.”
