Newton Police Log: Sunglasses Stolen, Shoplifter Nabbed at Whole Foods and More

Arrests

June 7: Security at Whole Foods on Walnut Street spotted a man leaving the store without paying for some cosmetics, Newton Police said. Evan Scott Goodman, 51, of 58 Westlake Road in Natick, was arrested on a charge of larceny over $250 and was issued a trespassing notice.

June 8: Police went to the scene of a traffic accident on Crafts Street where a car had hit and dislodged a fence, according to Newton Police. An officer spotted a man standing on Waltham Street and noticed that he had bloodshot eyes and detected a slight odor of alcohol on his breath. Javier Alejandro Herrera, 25, of 1315 Sprague St. in Dedham, was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and marked lanes violation.

June 7: Groveland Street residents told police that they wired money for a vacation rental in Eastham, Mass., which they found on the website VRBO.com (Vacation Rentals by Owner) on June 4, but found that the money went to an address in London, England, Newton Police said. The owners of the rental were notified.

June 9: An employee at Solstice in the Chestnut Hill Mall said he and another employee were helping several customers and when they left he noticed multiple empty spots on the display wall, according to Newton Police. A security video shows a woman come into the store, head to the Chanel sunglasses display and take several pairs of sunglasses off the wall. She was seen putting them in her bag and leave the store. The suspect is described as a white female, age 30 to 35, wearing a pink shirt and black pants and carrying a black bag.
