Newton South Grad Drafted by MLB's Washington Nationals

Willie Allen reportedly signed this week to play in the Nationals' minor league system after being selected in the draft.

Newton South alum Willie Allen got tapped by the Washington Nationals in the recent Major League Baseball draft.

The Nats selected Allen in the 16th round, according to a report on ESPN.com. He played outfielder for Western Oklahoma State College this year and batted .405 and had a slugging percentage of .865, according to the Western Oklahoma baseball website.

Allen, who hails from Mattapan, reportedly signed a contract with the Nationals on Monday to play with their Gulf Coast Rookie League team, according to the website Federalbaseball.com
