Newton Woman Injured In Mt. Monadnock Hiking Fall

The woman fell while hiking Monday at the popular southern New Hampshire mountain.

NEWTON, MA — A Newton woman was carried off Mt. Monadnock Monday after falling along a popular hiking trail, according to New Hampshire Fish and Game.

The 44-year-old was hiking along the White Cross Trail around 1 p.m. when she fell. She was part of a larger hiking party.

The hiker was treated at the scene and then carried down the mountain in a litter. The hiker declined an ambulance ride when she arrived at the trailhead near 5:30 p.m. and was taken by a personal vehicle for medical treatment, fish and game said.

Monadnock is the most popular hike in New England, but the mountain poses dangers including a rock summit, and several steep trails to the top.
