The West Newton restaurant will fill the former China Sky space on Forest Street in Wellesley.

A popular West Newton gastropub may soon expand to a second and third location in Wellesley and Wayland.

A story on the Swellesley Report this week says rumors of The Local eyeing a space in Wellesley are not exaggerated

The Newton location opened in 2008. In October 2011, Frank Santo, owner of The Local Restaurant, sat down with Newton Patch to talk more about the restaurant there and his other projects.

“The customer is my boss,” he told Newton Patch. “Everyone has a boss and the customer is mine. They tell me what they want, and that’s what I do.”

Launched in 2004, China Sky closed its doors in December 2012 with a note saying they were making repairs -- however, that may not be the case.
