Police Log: Car Break-ins, License Charges and an OUI Arrest

Men spotted attempting to break into car
Police responded to on Sunday (Aug. 12) after a man reported that two males tried to break into his car while he was playing tennis.
According to reports, the man parked his car on Jassett Street near the tennis courts. While he was playing, he noticed two white males sitting on the bench near his vehicle and a few moments later, noticed the men near his car.

One male had his hand inside the vehicle, reports said, while the other male stood in front of him. The vehicle owner yelled at the two males and they left down Faxon Street.
The suspects were described as two white males in their teens wearing white shirts and shorts, reports said.

The vehicle owner said he found the passenger side window partially open and the center console was open as well. Nothing appeared to be missing.
Other car break-ins
Newton Police responded to the following locations for reported car break-ins:
- Sunday - Commonwealth Avenue. Sometime between 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday, someone entered a vehicle parked on the street and stole an HP laptop.
- Sunday - Fenno Road. Sometime overnight Saturday into Sunday, someone entered a vehicle parked in a driveway and stole a GPS as well as an iPod.
- Sunday - Westbourne Road. Someone entered a car parked in a driveway and stole a GPS unit.
- Wednesday - Wyman Street. Sometime between 9 p.m. Tuesday (Aug. 7) and 11:20 a.m. Wednesday (Aug. 8), someone entered an unlocked vehicle. A neighbor told police a "medium build" man with short dark hair was seen in the lot around 11 p.m., but police were not contacted.
- Wednesday - Day Street. Sometime between Tuesday (Aug. 7) at 6 p.m. and Wednesday at 8 a.m., someone entered an unlocked car parked in a driveway.
Stolen construction tools
A man working on a construction site on Temple Street told police Saturday that someone had broken into the locked site and stolen a number of tools, including an air compressor.
According to reports, the incident happened sometime between Friday at 3 p.m. and Saturday at 9 a.m.
Bicycles swiped
Police responded to Lowell Avenue Friday after a woman told police her bike had been stolen.
According to reports, the woman left the bike unlocked up against a telephone pole on Lowell Avenue around 6:10 p.m. When she returned to the bike around 6:20 p.m., it was missing.
The bike was described as a grey Trek bike with white rims, a grey BMX seat, a red seat pole and red handlebars.
Another victim came into on Friday to report his bike had been stolen from his porch on Church Street.
According to reports, the blue Peugeot mountain bike was stolen sometime between 9 p.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. Friday. The bike had an aluminum rack over the rear wheel and a leather seat.
Newton man faces license charges
A Newton man was arrested Friday after police pulled him over and found he was driving with a suspended license.
According to reports, police pulled the man over on Auburn Street after noticing a real tail light was out.
Jubin Telfort, 22, of 90 Crehore Dr., was charged with driving without a license, police said.
Copper wiring stolen
Police responded to Derby Street Wednesday, Aug. 8 after a man reported a theft of copper wiring and piping as well as electrical wires from a condo complex that is under construction.
According to reports, the theft happened sometime between 4 p.m. Tuesday (Aug. 7) and 7 a.m. Wednesday.
The stolen items included: two rolls of copper wiring from the first floor unit, two feet of copper piping removed from the basement wall and 600 feet of electrical from the first floor.
In addition, it appeared there was an attempt to remove thicker copper piping in the basement, reports said.
Woman charged with OUI after crash
A Bellingham woman was arrested Thursday (Aug. 9) after she was involved with a car accident near the intersection of Lowell Avenue and Page Road, reports said.
When police arrived at the accident scene, they spotted a Mazda Cx7 on Page Road with "moderate damage" and a Honda Pilot on Lowell Avenue with "moderate damage." One of the drivers smelled of alcohol, reports said.
As a result, Lilian W. Kanai, 31, of 460 Lake St., was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. She was also cited for failure to yield to oncoming traffic, police said.
Warrant arrest
A Boston man was arrested Friday after police responded to the Riverside MBTA station for reports of a suspicious male who appeared to be intoxicated.
When police found the man, they realized there was an active default warrant out for his arrest.
Joseph J. Schaeffer Jr., 52, of 170 Newbury St., Boston, was arrested on a warrant out of Waltham District Court, reports said.
