One Killed, 80 Passengers Evacuated After Deadly Amtrak Collision

First responders are on the scene in Haverhill after an Amtrak train collision with a truck leaves an 83-year-old man dead.

HAVERHILL, MA — An Amtrak train was stopped Monday near the Haverhill station due to an incident involving a truck that left an 83-year-old man dead, the railroad service said.

The man, whose name has not been released, was the only person in the vehicle, police said.

Late Monday afternoon, the Essex County District Attorney's office confirmed its officers were called to the scene for a "death investigation."

Amtrak says none of the 80 passengers on the train were injured.

Emergency crews are on the scene where the Boston train bound for Portland, Maine has derailed and stopped, close to a flipped-over vehicle near the tracks.

The derailment caused eighty passengers on board Train 683 to evacuate by foot and then be transferred to trains 684 and 685, Amtrak Northeast said in a tweet.

Rosemont Street has been roped off by police, while emergency crews conduct an investigation at the scene.
