Andover, North Andover Amateur Photographers Honored In Annual Contest

Andover's Ashley Sheldon and North Andover's William Putnam were recognized as part of the 2022 Essex Heritage Photo Contest.

SALEM, MA — The Essex National Heritage Commission has announced the winners — and runners-up — of the 2022 Essex Heritage Photo Contest, and amateur photographers from Andover and North Andover have made the list.

The annual photo contest encourages photographers at all levels to capture the living landscapes, unique places and interesting people of Essex County.

All the photographs recognized among the winners were taken within the Essex National Heritage Area and fell into the categories of Downtown, New Encounters, and Splash of Color. A Youth category was for young photographers ages 5-17.

"From rocky coasts and harbors and rural farms to historic downtowns and parks, photographers vividly captured a variety of special places in Essex County for their award-winning submissions to this year's contest," said contest organizers in a statement.

In the Youth category, Andover's Ashley Sheldon earned second place for her photograph titled "The Path of Clouds."

Meanwhile, North Andover's William Putnam took third place in the Downtown category for his photo "North Parish at Night."

All the winning photographs can be seen on Facebook and online.

The public also is invited to attend an in-person photo contest reception at 6 p.m. on March 2, at the Salem Armory Visitor Center, located at 2 New Liberty Street in Salem. The event is free and open to the public.

The 14 winning images will be on display at the Salem Armory Visitor Center through the end of March.
