Another Coywolf Sighting in North Andover

These animals are quite rare.

It seems the coywolf spotted this winter hasn't left town. Either that, or a new one has arrived or there are more than one.

North Andover resident Andy Beresford walked outside into his back yard on Anne Road recently and found a coywolf, a coyote-wolf hybrid. He snapped a photo and sent it to us.

"I've seen smaller ones that are gray and skinny, this was way bigger and reddish color," Beresford said. "I didn't approach it though. We get a lot of wildlife in our backyard because my kids and I buy bags if whole corn at the grain store, and put it out."

Wolves haven't been part of the Massachusetts wildlife in more than 100 years, but they can migrate from other areas. And coyotes do have some wolf DNA.
