Be the Difference: Speak Up Against Bullying Program Tuesday

By Barbara Whidden.

The Office Depot Foundation has partnered with the boy-band One Direction to launch a $1 million bullying prevention program.  As part of the campaign they have engaged a nationally known speaker, Brooks Gibbs, to present its “Be the Difference. Speak Up Against Bullying!” program in middle schools across the U.S. during the upcoming school year.   Three hundred middle schools nation-wide were chosen to participate in this program.  Rhonda Kitabjian, a North Andover Middle School parent submitted the North Andover Middle School for consideration and we are one of four schools in Massachusetts chosen.

Brooks Gibbs is a youth crisis counselor and bullying expert.  He has spoken to more than 1 million students about bullying in the past decade.  He began writing and speaking on the subject of bullying in the aftermath of the Columbine shooting that took place in his hometown of Littleton, Colorado.  He has been called upon as advisor to several school tragedies, hosted national radio and televisions shows and has served as content producer for several television projects, including Teen Trouble on LIFETIME and Bully Diaries on Comcast On-Demand.

Brooks will be speaking to North Andover Middle School students on Tuesday, September 17.  He will be hosting an evening presentation from 6pm to 7pm at NAMS for parents, teachers and administrators and the public.  Admission is free.
