GoFundMe Up For North Andover High Grad Who Died After Hit-And-Run

Jorge Meeswee Calderon's death was announced by his family on Thursday. He was injured while riding a bike in Holyoke on January 5.

NORTH ANDOVER, MA — A GoFundMe page has been set up to help pay for funeral services for Jorge Meeswee Calderon, a 2018 North Andover High School graduate who passed away from injuries suffered in a Jan. 5 hit-and-run in Holyoke.

Calderon, 22, was on his bicycle when he was hit, according to police.

Calderon's death was announced by his family on Thursday, and his funeral is scheduled for Jan. 19, according to the GoFundMe page. As of Friday, the page, which was set up Tania Brito, had raised $3,355 of its $15,000 goal.

"This happened so sudden that I have to lay my beautiful son to rest and I want to give him a proper burial ... everything and anything helps" Calderon's mother Emily Vargas wrote on the GoFundMe page. "Thank you guys so much and thank you for all the love and support."

The Daily Voice reported that Calderon lived in Lawrence at the time of his death.

On the GoFundMe page, Calderon is described as an up-and-coming barber at Style and Grace barber shop in Chicopee, and as somebody who had a passion for music and an interest in DJ'ing.

According to reports by the Holyoke Police Department, at approximately 7:50 p.m. on Jan. 5, the department responded to the report of a bicyclist struck by a vehicle at Cabot Street and Canal Street.

At the scene, officers found Calderon on the ground and initiated first-aid service immediately, the Holyoke PD said. Calderon was transported to a local hospital for treatment, according to the department.

Police said the vehicle involved in the crash fled the scene.

The Holyoke PD said the investigation remains active and has asked anyone with information about the incident to contact the department's Criminal Investigation Bureau at 413-322-6900.
