Lawrence Man Indicted In Crash That Killed Young Mother

A 29-year-old Lawrence man was indicted by a grand jury on charges including manslaughter while drunken driving.

LAWRENCE, MA — A Lawrence man was recently indicted by a grand jury in connection to the April crash that killed a young Lawrence mother.

Pedro Nieves, 29, was indicted by the Essex County grand jury, Essex County prosecutors confirmed.

Charges included manslaughter while drunken driving, driving under the influence of drugs causing serious injury, and assault with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, the Eagle-Tribune reported.

Prosecutors say Nieves was driving the vehicle that hit Gabriela Hernandez's vehicle at the intersection of South Union Street and Winthrop Avenue on Apr. 29.

The driver in Hernandez's vehicle, a 20-year-old Lawrence woman, was seriously injured. Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene.

Nieves was first charged and held without bail in connection to the crash in June.
