Lawrence Marine Recruit Dies At Parris Island Training

LAWRENCE, MA — A Lawrence marine recruit died at training in South Carolina Tuesday, officials said.

Private Anthony Munoz, 21, was pronounced dead Tuesday morning.

Munoz appeared to have fallen off a balcony at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, WJCL reported.

"The news does not come to us lightly as the City of Lawrence is now suffering the loss of another service member — this time a son of our City — Pvt. Anthony Munoz, USMC," Lawrence Mayor Kendrys Vasquez said in a statement. "I offer the sincerest condolences from myself and my family and my administration will remain available as we all suffer this terrible loss."
