Pesenti's two goals help men's soccer beat Hartford, women's volleyball goes 2-1 at a weekend tournament in New Hampshire.

NORTH ANDOVER, MA —Midfielder Stefano Pesenti scored twice in a 2-minute, first-half stretch helping to propel the Merrimack College men's soccer team to a 4-0 win over Hartford on Sunday at Martone-Mejail Field in North Andover.

Seniors Juri Schlingmann, and Johan Feilscher also found the net for the Warriors, who improved to 1-0-1 on the season.

Pesenti, a graduate student from Camisano, Italy, scored 7:24 into the game, Feilscher had the assist. At the 9:36 mark of the first half, Pesenti scored again, with sophomore forward Michael Koralishn, a Methuen native, getting credit for the assist.

Schlingmann, from Flensburg, Germany, made it 3-0 Warriors before the break with an unassisted strike at the 23:17 mark of the first half. Feilscher, from Bad Bramstedt, Germany, closed out the scoring with an unassisted goal at the 59:04 mark.

Merrimack returns to action at 3 p.m. Wednesday when it visits Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island.

Women's Soccer

The Warriors were defeated 3-0 by California Baptist Sunday at Martone-Mejail Field, dropping to 1-2-1 on the season.

The Warriors were outshot 15-7 in the game, and Merrimack only had two shots on goal, one by freshman forward Adriana Marinello, from Salem, New Hampshire, and one by junior midfielder Sydney Haskin, from Wynantskill, New York.

Junior goalkeeper Lily Morgan, from Hudson, Ohio, made four saves in the contest for Merrimack.

The Warriors play again at 7 p.m. Thursday at home against Hartford.

Women's Volleyball

The Warriors went 2-1 in a weekend tournament in Durham, New Hampshire.

Merrimack lost 3-0 to New Hampshire on Friday, but rebounded for a 3-0 win over St. Peter's later in the day. On Saturday, Merrimack defeated Hartford 3-1.

Freshman Cate Wright, from Roswell, Georgia, led the Warriors with seven kills in the opener. Senior Quinn Kellogg, from Hanover, Virginia, led the team with 18 assists.

Against, St. Peters, Merrimack sophomore Julz Carlat, from Las Vegas, led the team with 10 kills and four blocks.

Carlat also led the way with 16 kills against Hartford. Sophomore Sydney Green, from Hanover, Maryland, had 13 kills in the tournament finale.

Merrimack is back in action at 7 p.m. Tuesday when it hosts Holy Cross.

Field Hockey

The Warriors dropped to 0-2 with Sunday's 3-1 loss to La Salle.

Sophomore forward Meghan McCarthy, from Townsend, had the only goal for Merrimack. Freshman goalkeeper Isabelle Gardiner, from Hertfordshire, United Kingdom, made four saves.

Merrimack next travels to Vermont for a 4 p.m. Friday contest.
