"I'm incredibly grateful and excited for this opportunity," Bertrand said. "To look back at the journey that brought me here and the honor of playing for my country is pretty special. There's a newfound focus coming into 2023 with a gold medal at stake."

Bertrand, an attackman, played three full-length seasons at Merrimack. He then played in all six games during the 2020 campaign, Merrimack's first in Division I, which ended prematurely because of the pandemic.

At Merrimack, Bertrand helped lead the Warriors to back-to-back Division II national championships, 2018 and 2019, and was named the USILA National Player of the Year and USILA Top Attackman in both of those seasons.

A native of Baldwinsville, New York, Bertrand finished his Warrior career with 275 points (210 goals, 64 assists).

After graduating from Merrimack, Baldwin played a graduate year at the University of Virginia, winning the Division I national title with the Cavaliers.

"(For Bertrand) to earn the opportunity to be named to such a select group (the U.S. National Team) is reflective of his work ethic and commitment to the sport," Merrimack head coach Mike Morgan said. "Having had the opportunity to recruit and coach Charlie, it has been extremely impressive to watch him continuously succeed with every opportunity he has earned. We are excited and wish good luck to Charlie and Team USA this summer as they look to compete for a world championship."
