Merrimack Men's Soccer Picked 4th, Women 6th In NEC Preseason Polls

The Warrior men went 7-9-1 overall, 6-3 in the NEC last season, the women were 4-12-2 overall, 4-6 in the NEC.

NORTH ANDOVER, MA —The Merrimack College men's soccer team was picked fourth and the Warriors women's team was picked sixth in the Northeast Conference (NEC) preseason polls announced by the conference this week.

The men's team went 7-9-1 overall, 6-3 in the conference last season, including winning four straight to end the campaign.

This year, Long Island University was a unanimous first-place pick in the NEC's preseason poll, followed by St. Francis Brooklyn and Fairleigh Dickinson. After the Warriors, Central Connecticut State was picked seventh, then Sacred Heard, Howard and Stonehill.

Merrimack is scheduled to open its season at home against Vermont at 7 p.m. on Aug. 25 at Martone-Mejail Field.

The Merrimack women's team is coming off a 2021 season in which it went 4-12-2 overall, 4-6 in the NEC.

The Warriors are scheduled to return their three leading scorers from a year ago: senior forward Ella Cormier (4 goals, 4 assists, 12 points), senior forward Molly Murnane (3 goals, 4 assists, 10 points) and junior midfielder Abigail Cieri (4 goals, 0 assists, 8 points).

Central Connecticut State was picked first in the NEC's preseason poll, followed by Fairleigh Dickinson, Sacred Heart, Howard, Wagner, Merrimack, St. Francis Brooklyn, St. Francis (PA), Long Island University and Stonehill.

Merrimack is scheduled to begin its season at UMass-Lowell at 7 p.m. on August 18.
