Middle School Teacher To Be Inducted Into Educator Hall of Fame

The following was submitted by the North Andover School Department.

Mary Lou Lynch, retired Middle School mathematics teacher, will be the next inductee into the North Andover Educator Hall of Fame. The ceremony will be held at the North Andover Middle School on May 1, 2013, at 11:30 a.m. in the cafeteria as part of a teacher appreciation luncheon being hosted by the Middle School Parent Teacher Organization. Ms. Lynch taught mathematics for 20 years at the North Andover Middle School, including parents and their own children. Ms. Lynch was much appreciated as a gentle and patient teacher, who always got the best from her students. She made math fun for her students, and got students excited about learning. Following her retirement, Ms. Lynch returned to the North Andover schools as a volunteer math tutor, and has been helping students at the Thomson Elementary Schools for a number of years.

Previous inductees to the Educator Hall of Fame have been John Minihan, who taught for 34 years at the high school, and retired as the History department chair (2012), Mr. Gerald Sanford, who taught for 35 years at the high school, and retired as English department chair (2011), Ms. Judith Hillner, who taught for 31 years, and retired as the assistance principal at Atkinson Elementary School (2011), and the first inductee, Mr. Arthur Forgetta, who taught for 34 years at the high school, and retired as the Mathematics department chair (2009).

The Educator Hall of Fame was organized by Dr. Charles Ormsby, former member of the North Andover School Committee, who wanted to honor teachers who had made significant contributions to the North Andover Public Schools and its students. The first induction was in 2009, and has been an annual event ever since. An educator must have taught at least twenty years in the North Andover schools, and been retired at least five years, to be eligible.
