Natural Gas Line Leak Reported In North Andover, Fire Officials Say

A utility contractor struck the gas line Monday morning, according to a fire department statement.

NORTH ANDOVER, MA — A utility contractor excavating at the intersection of Main Street and Tavern Road struck a high-pressure natural gas line Monday, according to fire officials.

The incident happened at 8:35 a.m.

Firefighters and police responded to stop all traffic in the area.

Surrounding homes were checked for gas, and residents were notified to remain inside, keeping windows and doors shut, fire officials said.

Eversource Gas also responded to assess and monitor the damage while crews worked to shut down the leak.

Main Street will reopen to traffic while permanent repairs to the damaged line are made.

There is no threat to the public, and technicians will continue to monitor any residual gas, fire officials said.
