North Andover Firefighters Recover Dead Man From Merrimack River

An apartment building resident called Wednesday night reporting that they spotted a body floating down the river.

NORTH ANDOVER, MA — A dead man was recovered from the Merrimack River on Wednesday night, according to a statement from the Office of Essex County District Attorney Paul F. Tucker.

The Lawrence Police Department got a call from a resident of the 50 Island St. Apartments with a view of the Merrimack River at 6:35 p.m. The caller stated they believed a person was being taken down river by the current.

North Andover firefighters responded and launched a boat. They recovered the man from the river north of the Amazon facility in North Andover at 7:21 p.m.

Firefighters estimate that they retrieved the dead man in the Haverhill portion of the Merrimack River.

Authorities have not identified the man.

The incident is under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to Tucker’s office.

The cause and manner of death will be determined by the Massachusetts Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
