A local man won a $1 million prize in the Massachusetts State Lottery's "$1,000,000 Payout" instant ticket game

NORTH ANDOVER, MA — A North Andover man recently won $1 million from the Massachusetts State Lottery, the lottery commission said.

Jeffrey Costello was unpacking his online grocery order when he noticed a rip in his loaf of bread, the lottery said, so he went to nearby Mike’s Market to buy another loaf.

While there, Costello decided to purchase two lottery tickets, one of which turned out to be a $1 million winner.

Costello's prize came in the state lottery's "$1,000,000 Payout" instant ticket game. He took the prize in the form of a one-time $650,000 (before taxes) payment.

Costello plans on using a portion of his winnings to buy cars for his two daughters, the lottery said.

Mike’s Market, located at 220 Middlesex Street, will get a $10,000 bonus for its sale of the winning ticket.
